Beleive it or not just today me and my husband were remembering those old days of doordarshan, and my eye caught this thread. Its very nostalgic!!! Apart from all the mentioned shows above, which r so unforgettable, there was even a science fiction based serial.its name seems to be on the tip of my tongue but i just cant recollect it.it was about time machine.a boy goes bak into his past,etc.:confused2: hey no one above mentioned karamchand?? Other remarkables were aisa bhi hota hai.based on strange things manoranjan/mitti ke rang. Based on short stories fauji/circus.fabulous ones having then not so big shahrukh khan the world this week.prannoy roy now big with NDTV mirza ghalib.naseeruddin shah not mention the ramayana and the mahabharata (we used to have picnic like atmosphere when they were on, my naani used to have sandwiches and tea ready before time) the sword of tipu sultaan. And for the maharashtrian friends ek shoonya shoonya.starring shivaji satam gotya.the sweet boy there was also a serial named guenipig.i think it had mahesh manjrekar in it?
And last but not the least aamchi maati aamchi mansa.based on agriculture but dunno why we used to love it. Cctv camera viewer software for blackberry. Its opening song still resonates in my ears. Thanx for reminding those lovely memories.!!!!!:2thumbsup: bye, loved sharing it with u lovely ladies.:thankyou2.
Well, whenever I see glimpses ( in between changing the channels-can not stand watching it) of star or other similar tv channels where women folk clad in jhagar magar saris and camera is going like shoom shoom shoom in 10 different angles for no good reason I really miss the oldies yar.!! Those were the days when so many good serials were on tv.I remember whole sunday mornning we used to sit in front of tv.Kacchi dhup (by amol palekar), wah janab. Hum log and Buniyad, Tamas and Udan ( with the Surf model Lalitaji.), khandan, karamchand, ye jo hai jindagi and yes malgudi days. Not to forget Surabhi, World this week with Pranav Roy and one discussion and debate programm with Vinod Dua.
And how can we forget Sai paranjape's serials.?Even on star plus they used to show good serials initially before Ekta Kapoors encrochment.Remember Sans by Neena Gupta, and Pal Chin.? They were really decent serials. I really miss that.I have got whole star package with my standard package but I cant stand it.even the news channel in our country have become so melodramatic.sorry to see this really.
COPYING - IN TAMIL FILM HISTORY COPYING - IN TAMIL FILM HISTORY Topic started by (@ 203.197.154.163) on Mon Jan 24 07:23:36 EST 2000. All times in EST +10:30 for IST. I think 'copying' is there for a long time in tamil film history. Here we discuss the tamil songs copied from others. For a compilation of copied/inspired songs: Responses:. From: (@ 24.112.32.14) on: Tue Oct 2 15:07:13 EDT 2001 the song kasu kasu from alli thantha vanam is a exact copy of english song. Does anyone know the song name?. From: sk (@ 137.132.3.8) on: Tue Oct 2 19:20:43 EDT 2001 KS & Vijay: Regarding 'unakkenaththaanE innEramA', listen to this too.
IR has nicely turned a part of unadhu vizhiyil (a duet from 'Naan En Pirandhen', MD: SG) into folk. The adaptation is neat and difference is almost unnoticeable.
From: sk (@ 137.132.3.8) on: Tue Oct 2 19:26:59 EDT 2001 oops. Difference is unnoticeable!! I meant the opposite: similarity is hard to detect.
From: vijay (@ 129.252.25.96) on: Tue Oct 2 20:35:29 EDT 2001 sk, bingo:-) sandham appadiye irukku.tune slightly different avlo thaan.(even the brighas are at the same places). From: (@ 164.164.82.29) on: Tue Oct 2 23:48:48 EDT 2001 TV serials 'en iniya iyanthira' and its sequel 'meendum jeeno' had music by VS Narasimman and not ARR. From: (@ 212.72.2.156) on: Wed Oct 3 01:05:32 EDT 2001 Karthik S, I vaguely remember MD of those serials were Thaayanban or something, but not VSN. From: (@ 164.164.82.29) on: Wed Oct 3 06:24:15 EDT 2001 I'm adequately lost and confused now! Venkatesh, I think you are right. It looks like it was Thayanban, after all. I remember the music very clearly, I used to be very impressed with it then, cos it was sounding very futuristic!
Pagal Song Download
I was kinda sure the composer had used some original track but wasnt sure at that time. Same with the case of Telephoto Film's first TV serial 'Iravil oru pagal'.I clearly remember its title theme tune! Wonder if thats ripped too? I'm sure VSN scored the music for this serial.
On second thots I think I've comfused between the two serials! Its indeed Thayanban for the Jeno series and VSN for IOP. In fact there is a beautiful song in this serial 'aasai nilave pesum malare, kalaimaane kann thoongu nee'.damn i remember its lyrics so well!and it goes.' Uyirum urugum, ulagam mayangum, un paarvai maano theno.'
Particularly the lines.' Kalaimaane kann thoongu nee' reminds me very strongly of an IR song from a movie starring actress Sreeja and her husband (who's the son of some minister.forgot the movie's and this guy's name).the song was 'semmeene semmeene'. Mission impossible 3 full movie download.
The 4th line in the song which goes something like 'kalyana malai.' And so on sounds ditto like the VSN number of the serial!!!! Has somebody else heard both the songs to be able to comment???. From: (@ 202.54.34.22) on: Wed Oct 3 07:15:30 EDT 2001 hi. From: (@ 212.72.3.98) on: Wed Oct 3 07:35:12 EDT 2001 Hi Karthik I have not seen Iravil oru pagal.
I too liked the title music of En iniya. It was a nice keyboard piece with some kind of starts speckling in the sky. From: (@ 202.169.145.72) on: Wed Oct 3 07:44:42 EDT 2001 Karthik S, yes, I remember IOP very much - it was one of the first 'MovieLike' TV serials!! (NeelaaMaala is another:-) I remember the song too.
Wonderful song (Sung by?? JeyaChandran?)., I think the IR song you are talking about is from movie 'Sevvandhi' (Hero name is Sandhana Pandiyan - S/O Educational Minister in 1991 Jaya Government - whats his name? ARanthai paNdiyan? ARanga Nayakam?) NagaS.

From: Bharath (@ 192.25.158.12) on: Wed Oct 3 11:49:21 EDT 2001 Karthik S, iravil oru pagal's title music is paul maurait's 'transparence'. A cool violin bit. I have transperence with me. The MD is VS Narsiman. The serial where revathi acts as a blind person and suresh menon is an escaped convict?????. From: Common Friend (@ 203.197.141.187) on: Wed Oct 3 13:46:53 EDT 2001 Isn't that whole IOP serial a copy of some english movie.? The movie's name is in my throat.I will get it soon.wait.
From: Bharath (@ 192.25.158.12) on: Wed Oct 3 14:03:44 EDT 2001 throat thaane. U still have tongue tip('naaku nuni') to cross. Apporam rendu peru 'no. No thats not the movie' appadinnu solluvanga.:-) but seriously i know s.menon gets 'inspired' by lots of english movies. I wudnt be surprised. He made another serial.ing revathi sometime later. Revathi wud be a mental case.
Dunno the serial name!. From: (@ 164.164.82.29) on: Wed Oct 3 23:37:36 EDT 2001 Well, I didnt know that IOP was inspired by some english movie!!
I found the sevvanthi (thanks naga!) song similarity when i heard the song 'semmeene' on TV years later after IOP hit the telly. Since VSN is (was?) IR's assistant as far as I remember, i thot there might be some connection, somewhere!!!. From: G.Ragavan (@ 202.144.44.234) on: Thu Oct 4 00:08:01 EDT 2001 Revathi's serial name is also Revathi.
Directed by Suresh Menon. From: Common Friend (@ 203.197.141.187) on: Thu Oct 4 12:55:06 EDT 2001 I think that the films name is some thing like 'Wait untill dark comes' or wait till sun sets' etc. Check out, whether any such film is there?confused right now.
From: rf (@ 152.163.201.81) on: Thu Oct 4 13:19:18 EDT 2001 sk, great. Two of my extremely fav songs. Btw, second interlude of IR's song, Ilamai Idho, Idho was in a Hollywood film i saw, it is a late 80s films!!!! It was foolish of me to not rememebr which video it was, thought i kept rewinding the music!!!!.
From: yaaro (@ 172.190.136.36) on: Thu Oct 4 14:17:35 EDT 2001 Sure it was late 80's?Ilamai idho idho was done in 81. From: Jag (@ 35.9.26.144) on: Thu Oct 4 15:05:17 EDT 2001 If IR were to copy music, 1) He has to listen to other music. 2) Watch hundreds of movies carefully. This implies he had to take a lot of time of from composing hundreds of movies he was working on(songs and bgm) and spare time for the above activities.
Besides that he had come up with those imaginative usage of piano, flute, guitar, drums. And had to come up with new tunes for movies, in all languages, score non-film albums, slokas, instrumental bits, work with maniratnam's movie through out the year, every year, write literature, talk about philosophy, music and spend time with his family and so on, so on.
Ever wonder why IR was reluctant to speak to the press? Were you not ever pissed off if someone were to disturb you when you deeply concentrating on work? I would be for sure and so would IR. I don't care if none of the DF'ers buy this argument, but so much work in one lifetime is almost unimaginable. This DF is desperately trying to show that IR has copied, or 'inspired', etc etc. Everyday some guy starts up stupid threads to degrade IR, and lot of DF'ers keep those threads alive by posting crap on IR. Granted that there are stray instances of inspiration here and there, but there can never be a question about his ingenious talent and originality.
Who's to say from where those 'original composers' in hollywood have copied from? (@ 12.5.10.153) on: Thu Oct 4 16:28:49 EDT 2001 wind changes direction. From: UVII (@ 63.225.17.160) on: Thu Oct 4 16:33:44 EDT 2001 Jag, Well said. From: Bharath (@ 192.25.158.12) on: Thu Oct 4 17:06:11 EDT 2001 //'composing hundreds of movies he was working on(songs and bgm) and spare time for the above activities.

'// I agree IR wud not be inclined to lift songs from the west.that much but above is not a good argument. Even deva does all the above.(ofcourse u have to strech the word 'imaginative' to include deva ) especially because in the classification of '.movies he was working on' that time cud include listening to other music for ideas.
( i dont think there is anything wrong in it! ) 'ilamai itho itho' is 1 of my all time fav. In my personal countdown of top 10 tamil songs i ever heard. Hauppauge wintv 8 serial number.
I still debate on arranging 'ilamai itho'.' Andhi mazhai'. 'paruvamee puthiya' in the top 3. The bit where spb does that 'thakathaka thaka.'
Is my most fav. And the music that comes. Kamal goes down when that chandelier swings above him is simply superb. I wud be shattered if it were inspired. I firmly refuse to believe it unless i saw the video and listened to it myself 10 times.
(@ 192.25.158.12) on: Thu Oct 4 17:08:35 EDT 2001 well! Now the wind is blowin strongly in the other direction.:-). From: (@ 24.112.32.14) on: Thu Oct 4 17:09:18 EDT 2001 does anyone heard the song 'utti mala kadu, AC cacha ooru', does anyone know the name of that movie?
And 'mukala mukabla' from kathalan is copied from dr.alban's 'mata oh a eh'. From: Whatever (@ 206.175.176.2) on: Thu Oct 4 17:42:53 EDT 2001 I agree with you., oops!, sorry, Bharath.:-) Post comments.
Moving on from my love towards coffee, my home climate was very conducive with the in coming of new television. Prime slot programs needed by everyone was satisfied by two tv's. Yet, even now i wonder why would we need two televisions? And secondly why so many channels cluttering the co-axial cables(/setup box and also adding lot of satellite debris!!)?? I think this is actually becoming a norm in many places these days!
A casual look at the newspapers these days for the day's television schedule brings in lot of worrying thoughts to me. A simple representation of this can be:' Are these very much needed? ' I still cherish those days of TV programs from the good old ' DOORDARSHAN'. I get a feeling that the balance between the entertainment, and learning was very good then. Being in Pondicherry, we got feeder DD1-Madras from 'Madras - Doordarshan' from 5 pm onwards to night 9pm.
Then it was over to Delhi- Doordarshan till 10pm. I vaguely remember some programs (being nostalgic) and take you all through the winding path to our past! Kurinchi Malar.(Ex Deputy CM Stalin was the hero in this serial).
Between 7.30-8pm,Mondays!!- in 1991?!? 2.Tuesday One hour drama. 7.30-8.30 pm. Usually not that great.
Mariyadai Raman 4. Idhu oru Manithanin kadhai- ( Raghuvaran was acting a dunkard in this!
Great acting! En Iniya Eiyendira. ( Sujatha's Sci- fi! Remember this dialog?) 5. Thupariyum Sambhu.( YG Mahendran) 6. Oliyum- Olliyum, Chitrahaar.
Ulla - varum Olikathir. Rail- Snegam( i think this special for many people, lovely title song in Sahana ragam). Turning point. Bhomkesh Bakshi.
Vikram and Bethal. Ramayanam 13. Kanmani Poonga. Duck Tales, Jungle book,Tales spin, He Man and the master of universe, Spider man( on Saturday evenings),Laurel and Hardy. Ek se Badkar Ek.( I think this came in DD-2!!) 17. Sword of Tippu Sultan. Malgudi days.
Madhu Cheenu, Vanna Kolangal, Naam KudumbaM 20. Iravil Oru Pagal ( Revathi and Suresh Menon, Revathi is a blind girl!!). Washington ill Thirumanam 22.
Maapilai Muruku (DD-2) 23. Surabhi - ( Amul Surabhi)!!
Discovery of India- (Sunday evening 3-4pm?!!) ( Please note observations given here within brackets are purely from the sight of a 9 or 10 year old kid!!) and then Saturday evening's Hindi movies and Sunday evening's Tamil movies. I may be used to seeing lot of Sivaji,MGR during this time in TV, that made me a fan for these guys and movies from these periods. Add on top of this DD-2Metro came in later and i would say it was all fine even then. The above list mostly made up for the entire week. Tlist is not that tightly compiled, even then the entire package was not taxing. I would like to add that though the list may be entertainment oriented, i still stick to that it also helped us in our learning ( because a half-an-hour program ) after school is an ' OK daily - dosage' to the kid.
Add that many of these were not derived from Films, or film subjects!! In today's scenario, a single channel's program list for the day has more than 200% than the list that we were used to for the entire week. Multiply it by 8 or 10 channels in foray, my God, it is 2000%. And most of these contents are made from films! I don't bring in Discovery,Animal-Planet,Nat-Geo,Cartoon network,Pogo - channels here. Person be it anyone - from baby to school going kids, people from College, employed ones, and the retired ones, we get into this pressure zone and it becomes very hard to crack this nut.
One thing that needs a special mention here, is most of these day's programs have quality and people's professionalism has increased leaps and bounds. But that does not mean that we must see them. Yet because of our day-to-day attachment with these programs, we start feeling that this as our own part! A show for the best singer -filters from over 20000 participants and then at the end there is one winner!
Though there can be one winner logically by self imposed rules, it creates ample stress and heart burns for the talented lot of participants and audiences. Is this needed? Similarly the same case with soap operas, reality shows and even the News that mostly giving raise to stress and also pain.
(though the audience may claim otherwise! It is not the case) Another serious problem is the content these programs carry. I found that many times, these programs cross the content border and becomes irrelevant, unsuitable for the audience. With the case of Doordarshan it was always Safe, i would say.
But with private channels we put our self into lot of this exposure risk from the form of contents, and even in advertisements!.
Middle aged, Sekar (Sathyaraj) is an NRI and he prefers to always travels in Suri's(Varun) auto, who does all the errands to the former. Prejudging his daughter's friendship, Sekar arranges for an immediate wedding, which eventually leads to heated arguments in the family. The same day night, Sekar drinks with his close friends at his unused small shop.
Once all his friends decide to leave, Sekar insists that Suri get more booze from nearby black-market and on their return, they happen to see a call girl (Anu Mol). Sudden fickleness of Sekar leads to uninvited trouble.
